Uncomfortable Questions: Was the Death Star Attack an Inside Job?

We've all heard the "official conspiracy theory" of the Death Star attack. We all know about Luke Skywalker and his ragtag bunch of rebels, how they mounted a foolhardy attack on the most powerful, well-defended battle station ever built. And we've all seen the video over, and over, and over, of the one-in-a-million shot that resulted in a massive chain reaction that not just damaged, but completely obliterated that massive technological wonder.Like many Americans, I was fed this story when I was growing up. But as I watched the video, I began to realize that all was not as it seemed. And the more I questioned the official story, the deeper into the rabbit hole I went.

Shocking, I tell you. Shocking. I demand am inquiry.

1) Why were a handful of rebel fighters able to penetrate the defenses of a battle station that had the capability of destroying an entire planet and the defenses to ward off several fleets of battle ships?

2) Why did Grand Moff Tarkin refuse to deploy the station's large fleet of TIE Fighters until it was too late? Was he acting on orders from somebody to not shoot down the rebel attack force? If so, who, and why?

3) Why was the rebel pilot who supposedly destroyed the Death Star reported to be on the Death Star days, maybe hours, prior to its destruction? Why was he allowed to escape, and why were several individuals dressed in Stormtrooper uniforms seen helping him?

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This should be cross posted under "Politics" and tagged with 9-11. Very, very, very cool find.

It's always been my opinion that Emperor Palpatine allowed the death star to be destroyed to gain sympathy for the Empire. I've also heard he's a direct descendant of the Bush family.

The Death Star was also heavily insured by one Darth Vader, who just happened to get in his own hyperdrive-equipped personal craft minutes before the explosion. And what about the damage done to the nearby moon of Yavin, supposedly scarred falling debris from the explosion? There are many questions yet to be explored fully.

Also note that Mr. Vader apparently used the huge insurance cash out to finance his luxury custom built Star Destroyer - "Executor."

Also there's a rumor that all Tatooinians that worked on the Death Star didn't show up for work that day.

It's Darth - not "Mr." I believe he's earned it.

And I suppose it was pure coincidence the Death Star plans fell conveniently into the hands of Darth Vader's daughter?

The questions keep coming.

Talk about nepotism of the highest order.

That's nothing. One of the Emperor's own personal assassins ended up marrying the little punk that supposedly fired the killing shot on the battle station.

Also, Darth Sidious was at a Stormtrooper clone facility reading "My Pet Sarlaac" to the children, and didn't use his force lightning on anyone when he heard of the explosion.

Then there are the continuing allegations that Darth Vader's aid, Admiral "Scooter" Piet intentionally lied about his disclosure of the identity of certain Imperial agents to Bothan Spies.

There have also been rumors of a breach of computer security leading up to the attack on the Death Star. Records indicate that an R-series droid with ties to Lord Vader himself1 [source needed] accessed the network a number of times prior to the destruction of the Death Star.  The rebel who was reportedly on the Death Star2 [source needed] was confirmed by DNA match3 [Imperial DNA Library] to be related to Lord Vader.

Even worse, despite Imperial claims, repeated sightings of terrorist leader Obi-Wan Kenobi indicate that he may well still be alive and that the station may have been destroyed to kill all of the witnesses who could claim that Vader did not in fact kill his old friend.

All I want to know is why Chewbacca didn't get a medal. Han hides for most of the battle and then swoops in to shoot one @!$%#ing TIE Fighter down and he's hailed as a goddamned hero. Chewbacca risked his ass every bit as much as that Nerf herder, Solo. The Rebel Alliance is a bunch of @!$%#ing racists...

Wookies don't need or want medals. The pleasure of the battle is what they're after.

Just try to hang a medal on a Wookie... just watch out for your shoulders.

Speaking of those in charge, why haven't the terrorist leaders Yoda, Obi-Wan and Leia, and their henchmen, Skywalker, Solo and Chewbacca been found and brought to justice? How many death stars will have to be destroyed? How can God's chosen Empire be so inept at bringing down a few under-funded, new age radicals? There must be more to the story...

I think we're also missing out on some of the background here. How exactly did Palpatine and his sidekick Vader manage to rise to such heights of power? There have been allegations that Palpatine's "election" was under dubious circumstances -- namely the threat of war and rebellion, and the use of fear-mongering. Also, despite promises that Palpatine would "lay down this power" once the conflict with the deadly terrorist cell calling itself "The Jedi Order" was completed, Palpatine managed to hold onto his position for far longer than the Senate originally bargained for.

What's worse is that Palpatine managed to practically disband the entire democratic process.

Old Palpatine had it right - start a few wars here and there, claim that he is doing it for the Republic. I mean he is smarter than he looks.

Personally, I've always believed it was an inside job. Look at the way it collapses in on itself uniformly, before exploding. This is a hallmark of controlled demolition. Like we're supposed to believe that this was the result of some uncontrolled chain reaction? If you look at the video, you can't even see any fires through the windows. And when, in the long history of gigantic man-made space vehicles, has one ever exploded as the result of a chain reaction caused by a few pounds of explosives? Never, that's when.

The Nabooan Institute of Space Technology investigation was a farce. They couldn't replicate the disaster using scale models, and then ignored their own findings in composing their final report.

You can't deny the laws of physics, people. Hyperdrive or no hyperdrive.

Moreover, Mythbusters: Imperial Edition has decidedly demonstrated that the X-wing is not capable of delivering a fatal blow to the Death Star with any ordnance in the rebel inventory. Not since the episode in which they proved that it is impossible for a freighter to hide in an asteroid belt has any proof been so conclusive.
